(norrie's chart has the pioneer and activist planet, Mars, on the Ascendant, along with the individualistic, queer and category-resisting planet, Uranus, in the 1st House. History
Norrie was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland as a male and moved to Perth, Western Australia at the age of seven. Norrie underwent male-to-female reassignment surgery on 3 April 1989 ["somewhere between two and four o'clock in the afternoon"], but later found that being a woman was not what zie felt like either.

(In the chart cast for 3 April 1989 at 3PM, transiting Moon in early Pisces is conjunct norrie's South Node. Transiting Mercury, Venus and Sun at 11-12-13° Aries was conjunct norrie's natal Eris at 10° Aries in the natal 8th House of sex, and TR Mercury was in mutual reception with Mars at 13° Gemini. All of these planets formed quincunxes - and thus a Yod - with natal Neptune at 9° Scorpio at the apex. Transiting Jupiter at 3° Gemini conjunct natal Sun probably meant that norrie welcomed the reassignment surgery with high expectations, but the Yod with nebulous Neptune at its apex incurred norrie's ambivalence about the effectiveness of the operation.)

Welby moved to Sydney, New South Wales in the early 1990s, after a highly publicized court case in Perth. Doctors stated, in January of 2010, that Norrie was a neuter, neither male nor female, as hir psychological self-image was as a neuter, their hormones were not the same as a male or female's, and had no sex organs.

One of Norrie's worries about being labeled male or female is that they now look like neither and is physically neither as well. Because of this, if Norrie's passport states gender as being one or the other, it is possible that Norrie might be detained for not fitting what the gender field says they should look like. This was one of Norrie's reasons for seeking recognition as gender-neutral.

(norrie's Leo Ascendant and 1st House of identity is ruled by the Sun in androgynous Gemini in the 10th house of official recognition. The Sun, in turn, is ruled by Mercury in Gemini in the 11th House of political activism, humanitarianism and human rights. These astrological factors have propelled norrie to assert and campaign for the fundamental human right to be recognised as neither male or female).

Australian Ruling on Gender
The New South Wales Government recognised Norrie as being neither male or female - as hormonally, psychologically and physically zie was neither male or female. Norrie is now referred to as "zie" (rather than she/he) and "hir" (rather than her/his). This comes three years after Australia's foreign minister, Alexander Downer, had secretly and without consultation reversed a policy whereby trans people could obtain a passport stating their "intended sex."

However, the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages rescinded on its promise to supply Norrie with a registered details certificate that had "sex not specified" written in the gender box. Norrie had originally received the certificate the day before Mardi Gras [26 February 2010], but then received a phone call from a representative of the agency that said it would be cancelled. Norrie received a formal letter of cancellation on March 17th. In response, Norrie filed a complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission and has claimed to the media to be "devastated with the news".

(From January through March 2010 the transiting Chiron-Neptune conjunction in late Aquarius squared norrie's natal Part of Fortune at 26° Scorpio. Chiron rules norrie's 2nd house of changes to the physical body and Neptune rules norrie's 8th House of changes in sexuality, thus the formal recognition of norrie's gender as "sex not specified." Yet, transiting Uranus at 27° Pisces trine natal Fortuna at the same time resulted in the sudden and unexpected cancellation of the certification. Uranus rules norrie's natal 7th House of partnerships, so zie is following the best path by drumming up support from the community via social networking sites such as Facebook).

Because Norrie is a member of Sex and Gender Education (SAGE), which is a lobby group that supports and campaigns for the gender diverse, the group has pledged to give its full support in trying to help Norrie reclaim their certificate.
