Simon Wickham-Smith Consultant Astrologer & Researcher, Musician, Painter. The archetypal masculine and feminine are symbolically embodied by the astrological chart, no more so than the Sun/Moon and Mars/Venus configurations. In the interpretation of any chart, of course, we have to remember the holistic principle -- that, for instance, withing the masculine Sun there is also the female -- without which an analysis would lack depth. This is all the more necessary when considering the chart of a transsexual subject, since the interplay of self and gender will be especially subtle and complex." -- Simon Wickham-Smith ("Transsexuality and Astrology") ![]() DATA: 2 February 1968, 17:55 (5:55 PM) WEST/GMT (00e/w), Rustington, England (50n48, 00w31). Simon Wickham-Smith
has been involved in astrology since the age of twelve
(when the progressed Sun conjunct both his Descendant and the Neptune discovery degree
of 25° Aquarius, while the dispositing progressed Uranus trined his natal
Aquarian Sun). Apart from
the personalized Uranus/Aquarius, his chart contains another indicator of
the astrologer: the Uranus discovery degree of 24° Gemini appears on the cusp of his
Eleventh House.
With Neptune being the most aspected of his planets and placed at the base of his chart,
Wickham-Smith has grounded himself in many Neptunian activities. He has been a Tibetan Buddhist
monk (see his ongoing 6th Dalai
Lama
page), a painter, and a musician.
His Venus in Capricorn in the Fifth in quite a stressed T-square set-up with Moon, Saturn, Pluto and
Uranus, may explain the catchy title of one of his compilation pieces: "Breaking the
Plastic Hymen: Vinyl Virgins and Lo-Fi Whores" (1996)!!! Since 1999, he has worked
with acoustic and computer instruments (progressed Neptune on creative Fifth cusp
square natal Uranus in musical Second), and is now working with another "airy"
instrument -- the didjeridoo (as progressed Mercury conjuncts his natal Moon and
opposes his natal Uranus).
With his Sun in the Sixth House ruling his Ascendant and Jupiter in Virgo rising, he's presently teaching
English to foreign students in Oxford.
Since 1998, he's been researching the astrology of transgenderism and intersexuality,
and his article "Transsexuality
and Astrology" was published that year in
The Astrological Journal (as progressed Mercury conjunct his Moon).
He's now engaged in writing a book on this topic (Jupiter in Virgo opposes his
Mercury in Pisces in an interesting sort of Mutual Reception). In a recent article,
"Black
Moon Lilith and the Tabu of Gender Dysphoria: Some Preliminary Thoughts,"
Wickham-Smith proposes that True BML indicates "the way in which the subject deals
with tabus and the way in which his or her society works with tabus
[including those] surrounding sex and gender and sexuality." He also
welcomes input from other folks interested in his research.
Simon Wickham-Smith tends to approach astrological consultations
"from a psychological point of view, identifying patterns from which the various aspects
of an individual's personality radiate" (The beaming Sun in Aquarius -- his least aspected planet
-- rules his Leo Ascendant).
He is available for consultations and can be contacted by
email or via his
Astrological
Consultant and Researcher webpage.
In the Inuktitut language of Canada, the word "qamutiik" means "sled" (and he
has a locomotive shape pushed along by transportational Jupiter on his Ascendant)...
